Privacy Policy

Introduction
DriftOff ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our sleep music fader app for iOS.
We designed DriftOff with privacy as a core principle. Your personal data stays on your device. We collect anonymous usage analytics (via TelemetryDeck) to improve the app — this data cannot identify you.
Information We Collect
Music Preferences
When you connect Apple Music:
- We access your Apple Music library to display playlists and songs for selection
- We store your selected sleep fade-out and wake fade-in music preferences locally on your device
- We do not access your Apple Music listening history
- Music playback is handled entirely by Apple's MusicKit framework
Fade & Alarm Settings
We collect and store locally on your device:
- Sleep fade-out settings (duration, fade curve, starting volume, pause-after-fade preference)
- Wake fade-in settings (duration, fade curve, target volume)
- Wake alarm times, labels, repeat schedules, and snooze preferences
- Playback mode preferences (loop, shuffle, play once)
- General app preferences (screen-on behavior, time format, notification preferences)
System Volume Control
DriftOff controls your device's system volume to perform gradual fade-out and fade-in effects:
- Volume changes are applied directly to your device's system volume
- We use Apple's MPVolumeView framework for HUD-free volume adjustment
- Volume operations continue in the background when the app is not in the foreground
- No volume data or usage patterns are recorded, transmitted, or stored beyond the active session
Subscription & Purchase Information
DriftOff offers subscriptions (monthly, 6-month, yearly) and a lifetime purchase option:
- Apple handles all payment processing through the App Store
- We receive confirmation of purchase and subscription status from Apple via StoreKit 2
- We do not have access to your payment details or Apple ID
- Free trial eligibility is managed by Apple's StoreKit introductory offer system
- Subscription status is verified on-device through Apple's transaction APIs — no external server is involved
Analytics
We use TelemetryDeck to collect anonymous usage analytics:
- Which features are used and how often (e.g., sleep fade starts, alarm creations)
- Where users encounter issues in the onboarding flow
- General app usage patterns to improve the experience
TelemetryDeck is a privacy-focused analytics service that:
- Does not collect personal information, device IDs, or IP addresses
- Uses anonymous, aggregated signals that cannot identify individual users
- Does not use cookies or tracking technologies
- Is fully GDPR compliant

Advertising
DriftOff displays advertisements to free-tier users via Google AdMob. Ads are non-personalized by default. Here is what you need to know about advertising in the App:
- Ads are shown only to users on the free tier; premium subscribers do not see ads
- Ads are served by Google AdMob, a third-party advertising platform operated by Google
- AdMob may collect certain data to serve and measure ads, including: device information (device model, operating system version), ad interaction data (impressions, taps), and approximate location (based on IP address)
- By default, ads are non-personalized and do not use your data to build an advertising profile
- You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising)
- For more information on how Google handles data, see Google's Privacy Policy
Notifications
DriftOff uses local notifications for wake alarms:
- Notification permission is requested only when you set up a wake alarm
- All notifications are scheduled locally on your device
- We do not use push notification services or remote servers
- You can revoke notification permission at any time in your device settings
Information We Do NOT Collect
DriftOff does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following: audio recordings, precise location data, contacts, photos, browsing history, or device identifiers for tracking.
Microphone Access
DriftOff may request microphone permission as part of the Apple Music API integration on certain iOS versions. This permission is required by Apple's framework and is not used by DriftOff to record, monitor, or process any audio. No sound from your microphone is ever captured, stored, or transmitted.
How We Use Your Information
- To fade your music volume gradually for sleep (fade-out) and wake (fade-in) scenarios
- To play your selected music from Apple Music at the appropriate times and volumes
- To trigger wake alarms and deliver local notifications at your scheduled times
- To remember your fade settings, music selections, and alarm configurations between sessions
- To verify your subscription or purchase status so you can access app features
- To understand anonymous usage patterns and improve the app experience (via TelemetryDeck)
Data Storage
DriftOff stores data on your device using Apple-provided storage:
Local Storage (UserDefaults)
- App settings, preferences, alarm data, and fade configurations are stored locally on your device
- Local data is automatically deleted when you uninstall the app
- Protected by your device's built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID)
We do not operate our own servers. All data storage uses Apple's on-device infrastructure. We have no ability to access your data.
Background Audio & Volume Fading
DriftOff uses background execution capabilities to ensure your sleep fade and wake fade operate reliably:
- When a fade is active, the app continues adjusting system volume in the background
- Background tasks are used solely to maintain active fade operations and alarm monitoring
- No data is collected, recorded, or transmitted during background operation
- Background execution stops automatically when no fade or alarm is active
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
We may share information only in the following circumstances:
- With Apple, as required for App Store purchase and subscription verification via StoreKit 2
- With TelemetryDeck, for anonymous aggregated analytics (no personal data is shared)
- With Google AdMob, for serving advertisements to free-tier users (device information and ad interaction data may be shared; see Google's Privacy Policy)
- If required by law or valid legal process
- To protect the safety of users or the public
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:
- Local data (settings, alarms, preferences) is stored entirely on your device
- Subscription and purchase status is verified on-device via Apple's StoreKit 2
- We do not operate our own servers that store your data
- App data is protected by your device's security features
- Analytics data sent to TelemetryDeck is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you
Children's Privacy
DriftOff is a general-purpose sleep music app intended for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because all personal data is stored locally on the device and is never transmitted to us, we have no means of identifying or collecting information from any user, including children.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
